Treasure Island

Treasure Island tells the story of a young boy called Jim Hawkins who finds a treasure map belonging to a dead pirate called Captain Flint. Pursued by Long John Silver and his band of scoundrels, Jim Hawkins must search the island looking for the treasure, all the time avoiding Silver and his pirates.

You ask for a volunteer, somebody who thinks they have the instincts to think like a pirate and track down a horde of hidden treasure. The map consists of nine different locations. The spectator must use their instinct to decide where to start their hunt. Only a true pirate will make it to the final location, using their instincts as they move around the map.

In this thrilling magic effect your spectator gets to play Jim Hawkins, whilst another plays the spirit of the dead Captain Flint. Pieces of a map are laid out on the table and the first spectator places a token anywhere on the map. You explain that success will only be achieved by starting on the correct part of the map. Captain Flint's instructions are now followed by moving the token around the map from place to place, periodically removing some pieces of the map that Silver's pirates have taken over. If a piece of the map is removed and the token has landed on it then Jim Hawkins has lost. He has a completely free choice of which way he moves on the map, even going round in circles if he so wishes. Amazingly the token ends up on the last piece of the map without pirates, and when your volunteer digs in the sand he finds the treasure. Everything can be inspected at the end.

This is a great piece of fun mentalism for amateur or professional.
